New Homebirth Team at Whipps Cross

Following this post about the Whipps Cross homebirth service I wanted to give you a quick update.

After a brief period of Independent Midwives attending local homebirths (read this birth story for more information), women living in the Whipps catchment area are now eligible to access the new dedicated homebirth team. Suzan and Detta, two experienced and lovely midwives are running the service, which will hopefully expand as demand grows.

They aim to make the service consistent, reliable and woman-centred and hope to increase the numbers of babies being born at home in Waltham Forest.

If you want to find out more you can self-refer to the team via the community midwives office at Whipps Cross or ask your current midwife to refer you. You can also attend one of their open meetings for women and their supporters:

Last Thursday of every month,3pm
Langthorne Health Centre
Langthorne Road
E11 4HX

As of last week 10 homebirths had taken place using the new team. I was privileged to be at one of them (an intense and quite swift birth of a first baby – birth story to follow) and look forward to seeing the service expand over the coming months.

Happy homebirthing Waltham Forest women!
